Restaurant Review: Assa

Assa (53 St. Giles High Street London WC2H 8LH)
Cuisine: Korean

Food ordered [02/29/12]:
- ddubokki £7.50
- spicy beef soup served with rice £7.50
- spicy seafood udon £7.50

This is the second time I’ve eaten here and I went with a girlfriend for a late lunch.  The service was terrible but I've accepted the Asian stereotype of bad service so I wasn’t expecting much.  Also, in London, apparently its not required to tip at all so not a huge problem.  The restaurant itself is small and wasn’t dirty but could be cleaner.  It is in a good location though, close by to Oxford Street shopping :).

We were served two banchan, seaweed and beansprouts.  No kimchi :(.  The ddubboki was too soft and came with ramen in it?  Not an uncommon dish apparently but I don’t think its supposed to be served in normal ddubokki.  The soup was bland, barely spicy, and wasn’t hot.  I only tried a little of the seafood udon which was interesting but had too much sauce and isn’t what I would have ordered.

Ddubokki.
